Lost Lantern packs in a ton of value with their Single Cask #7 release, offering whiskey drinkers a chance to try Corbin Cash’s bourbon at a higher age and at Hazmat proof.a

The Souza family, who is known for D&S Farms in Atwater, California since 1917, added Corbin Cash Distillery to their family legacy when they opened shop in 2009. Corbin Cash has made a quick name for themselves thanks to their unique tasting rye as we found their Corbin Cash 1917 Barrel Proof Merced Rye to be full of flavor, so much so that it made our Best of Rye list of 2022.

Lost Lantern is no stranger to Corbin Cash, as they have already highlighted their rye in two previous releases. This time out though Lost Lantern is switching it up by releasing bourbon from the distillery. Corbin Cash has only just started rolling out their bourbon into more markets. Notably, the company’s bourbon releases have been released at 4 years old, whereas Lost Lantern’s 2024 Single Cask #7 features a surprising 7 year age statement. It’s also Hazmat proof, coming in at 146.2, which is all some bourbon drinkers who chase proof will need to know about this release before saying, “Yes to the dress…err bourbon.”

Nosing Single Cask #7, it is instantly apparent how incredibly rich it is, and this carries over into the rest of the sip. The proof does a lot of heavy lifting here and is as bold as you’d expect it to be. Notably, adding water doesn’t do a lot to open up this whiskey, as it performs best at its native high-octane proof point. Heavy oak and dark brown sugar are found throughout its sip, creating a sweet-forward bourbon. Nutmeg, raisin, hazelnut, clove, and prune help round out the flavor profile.

Lost Lantern 2024 Single Cask #7: Corbin Cash Straight Bourbon doesn’t come off as unique tasting as Corbin Cash’s rye does, and while that is somewhat disappointing, the overall sip is anything but. Single Cask #7 isn’t trying to be a carbon copy of George T. Stagg or Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, but is very much its own beast. Fans of ultra-high proof bourbons will be right at home as Single Cask #7 certainly doesn’t pull any punches. Instead, it goes for the jugular with its incredibly rich and potent sip. It also has to be said that Lost Lantern is offering a ton of value with this release, as Corbin Cash’s Sour Mash 4 Year Old Bourbon costs $100, and Single Cask #7 with its exclusive 3 additional years of aging and Hazmat proof point comes at just $30 more.

Lost Lantern 2024 Single Cask #7: Corbin Cash Straight Bourbon is a 200 bottle release.
