A sweet, pleasing midpoint props up this sourced single barrel bourbon from A.M. Scott Distillery.
Established in 2022, A.M. Scott Distillery is located in Troy, Ohio. The company produces a number of spirits that they blend and bottle, including their whiskeys, which are most likely sourced from MGP. The company states that “A.M. Scott Distillery and its family of brands has committed to refurbishing buildings to bring storefronts and restaurants/entertainment venues to midwest Ohio.”
The bourbon presents a straightforward opening to the sip, with a light aroma of classic bourbon scents wafting out of the glass. Intrigue is brought forward during the transition to the midpoint, as jasmine honey, orange peel, and a pink bubble gum note provide a sweet profile that leans into a black peppercorn spice. The finish regresses back to how the sip started, with simple notes of rye spice, black peppercorn, and charred oak, offering an all-too-short ending for the bourbon. I can’t help but point out that it’s odd A.M. Scott’s Single Barrel Bourbon isn’t labeled “straight bourbon,” especially considering that it’s qualified to be labeled that way. That said, this bourbon delivers a straightforward sip that shows a pop of promise thanks to its palate, but overall is an average whiskey at the end of the day.
The bourbon in review is from barrel number 68 and is bottle 71 out of 130.
