Entering into its fourth year and subsequent release, the Wyoming Whiskey National Parks series continues to be some of the best and most consistent bourbon Wyoming Whiskey releases.
One of the goals of Wyoming Whiskey’s National Parks limited edition bourbons is to raise awareness and funds for the National Park system, and to date has donated $150,000 to Yellowstone Forever. Once again adorned with beautiful artwork that harkens back to early 20th century art style, the bourbon continues to be solid year after year. According to the company, “National Parks No. 4 has been crafted from barrels specifically selected to continue the distinctive flavor profile of our National Parks Series, celebrating the adventurous spirit of these treasured wide-open spaces.”
That distinct flavor profile is present, as many of the series’ flavors once again return, such as orange, white pepper, leather, and honey, but are joined by a few newcomers. On the nose, a big warm scent of melted Werther's Original caramel hard candy really starts the bourbon off in a great place. It’s followed by green apple, cherry, and raspberry dark chocolate, which is where the bourbon deviates most from previous releases. On the palate, ginger pops up this time out and gives this release additional distinction. The finish hits a little harder thanks to roasted vanilla bean and rye spice despite being 7 proof points lower than last year.
Wyoming Whiskey National Parks No. 4 is priced the same as last year’s release, which is a welcomed change of pace compared to what we’re seeing from other brands this year. Wyoming Whiskey has another enjoyable release on their hand that offers just enough distinctiveness thanks to warm caramel, ginger, and orange notes without going near polarizing territory. The National Parks series continues to be one of Wyoming Whiskey’s standout products and remains a down-to-earth bourbon that forgoes flash for a more traditional, yet still interesting sip.
