Adding age and proof to the brand’s core lineup, Yellowstone Bourbon Small Batch 107’s most striking feature is its fiery spice, which will envelope your mouth.
Yellowstone Select Bourbon is a fan-favorite release that saw a surge in popularity due to the popular TV show with the same name. The company’s annual Yellowstone Limited Edition releases frequently impress, and last March, the company released Yellowstone American Single Malt. Perhaps in what will become an annual tradition, the company is back with a new release, Yellowstone Bourbon Small Batch 107, the only release in the Yellowstone brand family to feature an age statement on the packaging.
Those who may find Yellowstone Select Bourbon too soft because of its 93 proof point should welcome the jump to 107 proof. It’s a noticeable one, as Yellowstone Bourbon Small Batch 107 offers a very different drinking experience compared to the company’s Select line.
The nose is surprisingly light for the proof, offering gentle notes of caramel, yellow corn, oak, baking spices, and marshmallow. The palate is on the simple side, with vanilla, honey, caramel, and light oak, along with a notable pop of spicy oak. This spice continues into the finish and gets amplified. Combined with black pepper, spicy pepper, and rye spice, Yellowstone Bourbon Small Batch 107 finishes with a striking spice concoction.
Much like how people gravitate to Weller Antique 107 for an extra spicy pop, it seems like Limestone Branch Distillery modeled this release to fill a similar need in their lineup. The bourbon spice component is by far its most striking feature, while its other flavors are either on the light side or traditional in nature. Clearly, Limestone Branch Distillery was looking to add age and proof to its lineup and used spice to further differentiate it from their other brands. It’s a solid overall pour for the price but at the same time, doesn’t overally surprise you either.
