If you’re a fan of maple syrup-infused bourbons, Round Barn Distillery Baroda Straight Maple Bourbon will likely work for you.

Round Barn Distillery is located in Baroda, Michigan, in the state’s southwest corner and a mere 88 miles from Chicago. They are a triple-threat operation, offering a distillery, winery, and brewery onsite. As their name suggests, one of their buildings is a round barn, which was popular between the 1850s and 1930s. Round Barn Winery and Brewery opened in 1992, but the Round Barn Distillery had its official grand opening on February 15, 2025. Notably, the company had been distilling for several years before its opening.

Typically, there isn’t much distinction between one maple syrup finished/infused bourbon over another. This is because maple syrup is such a powerful flavoring agent that it usually crushes a bourbon’s finer aspects. Round Barn Distillery Baroda Straight Maple Bourbon starts with a 3 year old bourbon distilled by the company before being infused with maple syrup. Although it is challenging to fully taste the core bourbon flavors in the final product, a light floral note emerges above the maple, yielding satisfying results.

Overall, Round Barn Distillery Baroda Straight Maple Bourbon is, of course, a sweet whiskey, but I give the company credit for not overdoing its maple syrup infusion. The bourbon has a thin mouthfeel, yet still coats your tongue thanks to the maple syrup infusion. Its flavor profile doesn’t have much complexity, but that’s also to be expected given how overpowering maple syrup can be. If you’re a fan of maple bourbons, which can work wonders in certain types of cocktails, you’ll know what you’re getting into here.
