Adding an ongoing bottled in bond bourbon to its core lineup shows that Milam & Green is serious about evolving as a whiskey brand.

Milam & Green Bottled in Bond Bourbon is the latest edition to the company’s ongoing whiskey portfolio. The whiskey was distilled by the Milam & Green team in the fall of 2019 at Bardstown Bourbon Company and aged in Kentucky before being transported to Blanco, Texas for hand bottling. Heather Greene, Whiskey Blender and CEO of Milam & Green stated to us that she “wanted something that felt like us, but was still a classic Kentucky style.”

The sip opens with earthy scents that are well defined, but come across as dull. Rye grain and cinnamon lead the way with tempered oak and a touch of malt playing a nod to the whiskey’s bottled in bond status and its unusual use of a large percentage of malted rye in its mashbill. The palate concentrates on more core flavors with oak and rye spice mingling with light candy corn. Additionally, there’s a slight silkiness to the mouthfeel which adds a dash of intrigue. Continuing the theme of core flavors sweet corn, light baking spice and a dash of oak are quickly overtaken by rye spice before a lingering sweet spice takes over. Overall, this is a nice first release of the company’s bottled in bond whiskey line. It may not necessarily stand out amongst its competition, but it sets a good baseline for the brand to grow from.
