Blending three bourbons (two of which Milam & Greene distilled themselves), results in a surprisingly warm and rich bourbon for its proof.

Milam & Greene has been slowly moving away from using purely sourced whiskey, and their Triple Cask Bourbon is a showcase of that. Milam & Greene’s master distiller, Marlene Holmes, and her team distilled two of the three components used in this blend. One part was distilled at Bardstown Bourbon Company, and the other at an undisclosed Blanco, Texas distillery. The final component in the blend was sourced from an undisclosed Tennessee distillery. The result is a whiskey that tastes much more original, yet maintains the company’s savory traits and quality blending that they are becoming known for.

The bourbon opens with hefty cinnamon, cedar, and hazelnut notes creating an aroma with rustic sensibilities. The palate mirrors this, introducing dried fig, baking spices, tobacco leaf, and sandalwood. Perhaps unsurprisingly at this point, the finish takes it a step farther, and further layers in chocolate, hazelnut, and spicy oak with a lingering cinnamon aftertaste. If you haven’t picked up on the flavor notes already, this whiskey shares many Ambruana-like flavor notes without fully committing to them.

Being 94 proof, the whiskey is an easy sipper, yet the proof doesn’t hold back its flavors in the slightest. We talked about whiskey that drinks better during certain times of the year, and Milam & Greene Triple Cask Bourbon is a perfect cold weather bourbon. It’s full of rich and warm flavors that will grow on you the more you sip it. I’ll give kudos to Milam & Greene’s team for their blending and distilling prowess with this release and for keeping it priced under $50. Milam & Greene has been chugging along at a quiet murmur for a while now, and it's great to see them expand their lineup with their own distillate, and more importantly, have consumers take notice.
