Marking the first time Lost Lantern has ever highlighted an Idaho distillery, Warfield Distilling Idaho Single Malt delivers an intriguing sip that isn’t afraid to highlight its barrel proof nature.
Warfield Distilling Idaho Single Malt is part of Lost Lantern’s Fall 2025 Collection, which they refer to as the “Scotch Lover’s Collection,” as it takes a “deep dive into the more traditional side of American single malt.” This release is the first time that Lost Lantern has released a product from Idaho. Warfield Distilling was founded in 2015 by Alex Buck and was later acquired by Interstate Holdings in 2024. The distillery utilizes two 1000-gallon whiskey stills made by Forsyth in Scotland and is also one of the country’s only certified organic distilleries.
The first striking aspect of this Warfield Distilling Idaho Single Malt single cask is its incredibly light color. After spending 4 years aging in a used bourbon barrel, you’re greeted with a light straw color. The next surprising aspect of the whiskey is how it tastes.
The sip starts with an intriguing aroma that, thanks to the barrel used, highlights traditional bourbon qualities along with intriguing scents of dates, hay, and a faint watermelon rind reminiscent of what you have after stripping away any remaining sweet bits. Brown sugar carries through to the palate, which blends in additional sweet notes along with a sharp black peppercorn spice. Spice carries over to the finish along with a touch of sweetness up front before the whiskey’s 135.4 proof wallops you with a burst of heat at the end. It’s an intriguing pour overall; however, I would prefer to see what this whiskey could have achieved with more time in the barrel and a more tempered proof.
Lost Lantern Warfield Distilling Idaho Single Malt is a 196 bottle release
