Switching over from sourced to in-house produced whiskey can always be challenging, but Old Dominick shows that they’re on the right path with their Bottled in Bond Batch No. 3.
Up until now, Old Dominick’s main releases have consisted of whiskey sourced from MGP. These standard sourced releases have been largely straightforward, classic style whiskeys, which didn’t allow the brand to truly stand out in a crowded marketplace. In November 2022, Old Dominick announced two new products both of which were made from the ground up at their Old Dominick Distillery in Memphis, Tennessee. This included a Tennessee Straight Whiskey and also bottled in bond variants. Earlier this year, the brand announced that they were expanding the distribution of these products, however, Old Dominick Bottled in Bond Batch No. 3 is a Tennessee only release.
An aromatic burst of spice mingles with green apples and bread to kick things off. These scents lead the way to a palate that is a mix of spice with drier notes along with a subtle sweetness. Wrapping things up, the finish delivers a short burst of spice, but is a straightforward finish that leaves room for improvement. Overall Old Dominick Bottled in Bond Batch No. 3 is a nice first foot forward for the distillery. I like this new direction the brand is headed. As time goes on I expect they’ll hone in on the whiskey and consumers will soon forget their sourced past.
