A blend of mesquite wood, citrus, and smoke, delivered with ample intensity and a velvety mouthfeel, makes Lost Lantern 2025 Single Cask #12: Santa Fe Spirits New Mexico Single Malt a wholly unique pour.

Lost Lantern’s latest five single barrel release marks the company’s fifth anniversary and revisits the original distilleries that they initially launched with in 2020.

Santa Fe Spirits was an early American single malt producer founded in 2010 by Colin Keegan. Located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, this southwestern-based distillery has a long history with Lost Lantern, providing the first single cask for the company’s first release in 2020. Over the years, Santa Fe Spirits has been part of Lost Lantern’s Flame and Vatted Malt Edition No. 1 blended American single malt whiskeys, and most recently was released as 2025 Single Cask #1: Santa Fe Spirits New Mexico Single Malt Finished in an Apple Brandy Cask.

The growing category of American single malts takes whiskey flavors in a wide range of new directions. The inclusion of mesquite-smoked malted barley at only 30% of the mashbill was enough to define this whiskey completely. Mesquite wood and smoke are present throughout the pour, but are never excessive or dominating. They are balanced by a citrusy undertone on the nose, followed by a laundry list of additional flavors on this whiskey’s complex palate, including candied orange peel, caramel, toffee, toasted marshmallow, vanilla custard, and white grape. All of this is delivered with a velvety smooth mouthfeel, as the whiskey transitions to more spice and a touch of lingering heat in the finish.

This is great pour if you enjoy a smoky, mesquite-flavor-kissed pour, as it speaks to a specific group of whiskey enthusiasts who enjoy the deeper dive into the fascinating world of American single malts.

Lost Lantern Santa Fe Spirits New Mexico Single Malt is a 135 bottle release.
