Showing improvement over previous barrel proof iterations, Starlight Distillery’s bourbon is gaining ground at a steady rate.
If you’re not familiar with Starlight Distillery, they are located in Indiana, on the Huber estate, a distillery/winery/family farm that makes all of their spirits in-house. In a relatively short amount of time since they started distilling bourbon, they have made a name for themselves and are some of the biggest risk-takers and innovators in whiskey finishing. This release is part of the Lost Lantern’s series that focuses on the Midwest distilleries.
Lost Lantern 2024 Single Cask #1: Starlight Distillery is a decidedly more straightforward affair than some of the distillery’s finished whiskeys, offering this straight bourbon at 118.7 proof at 6 years old. The proof is quite a bit lower than some of Starlight’s own barrel proof releases, but that is a good thing. With the extra age (and accompanying oak in the flavor profile), this 6 year Starlight is in a much more mature state than previous releases from Starlight. Where the distillery’s younger distillate has been a little rough around the edges at times, these flavors are all well integrated and sport a more balanced sip. Depth and complexity are still a bit on the light side, but it doesn’t distract from this overall enjoyable barrel proof sipper.
Lost Lantern 2024 Single Cask #1: Starlight Distillery is a 132 bottle release.
