A bold Scotch-styled single malt that packs a punch.
Lost Lantern is back with their second single barrel release from McCarthy’s. The prior release was a 6 year old single malt, which made it one of the oldest McCarthy’s whiskeys ever released. For this release, the age dropped considerably, yet somehow the end product is very similar to the prior Lost Lantern release and no less impactful.
As stated in our previous review, McCarthy’s is one of those whiskeys that bridges the gap between the worlds of Scotch and American whiskey lovers. Firmly featuring the roots of Scotch in its styling, it’s the whiskey's American side that brings the proof. With Scotch whiskey often much lower in proof, these McCarthy’s releases are a chance to taste a Scotch-style single malt at a high proof. The result packs a punch. Full of campfire smoke, peaty richness, and potent leathery malt, there is a lot to enjoy with this release if you’re into this style of whiskey.
