A well-executed brandy finished bourbon from Heaven Hill is a nice incentive to drive bourbon tourism to their visitor centers.
Heaven Hill Select Stock is Heaven Hill’s limited edition distillery-only line. Bottles can be purchased at their Bardstown visitor center and at their Evan Williams Experience gift shop in downtown Louisville. The bottle being reviewed is the 14th edition that was released in the Spring of 2023, however, it was purchased at the Evan Williams Experience in January 2025. This held-back product allows consumers the chance to try older releases and adds to the mystique of exactly how much of each Select Stock release the company produces. For the 14th Edition, Heaven Hill blended 7 and 12 year old bourbons and finished them in used brandy barrels for over 4 years. The bourbon was aged in Rickhouse I on Floors 4 & 5. The barrel serial numbers of the bottle in review are 45086-45088 and 45092-45094.
The extended time finishing in the used brandy barrels is evident throughout the entire sip and provides a nice intrigue to the blended bourbon. The scents the nose delivers are nuanced and pleasant, with pops of raisin and tree bark along with various sugars mingling well together. Noticeable flavors of raisin and chewy dry oak pop in the midpoint before transitioning to the finish where they carry through along with a nice light rye spice which lingers. The bourbon turns a tad dry in the finish, but not to the extent you might expect for a bourbon that’s spent as much time as it has resting in the various oak barrels. Heaven Hill Select Stock 14th Edition drinks really well at 100 proof, but I would love just 5-10 more proof points added to see if the brandy influence would pop even more. As is, this is a really well-executed barrel finished bourbon from Heaven Hill.
