A well balanced traditionally-inspired bourbon that’s proofed perfectly.

Part of a doubleheader release that commemorates the company’s second anniversary, Burton James Bourbon Batch 001 is the first bourbon release for the company. The blend combines six barrels spanning three bourbons that were distilled in two different states. B.H. Distillers founder, Shawn McCormick, leaves no detail unchecked, and as a result, a more detailed breakdown of the blend by individual barrel, including entry proof, dump proof, make and dump date, exact age, evaporation loss, and cooperage can be found here.

B.H. Distiller’s first bourbon release is a crowd-pleaser, trading the need to push flavor boundaries for balance and pure drinkability. At the bourbon’s core are caramel, vanilla, and toasted oak. Layers of raisin, graham cracker, tobacco, cinnamon, baking spices, and brown sugar provide dimension, with just the slightest hint of a cotton candy note in the finish. This blend of mashbills and distilleries doesn’t taste familiar per se, but the flavors come together cohesively, and you can’t pinpoint elements of any particular source. And the proof is just right for a wide range of consumers. As a result, it’s a bourbon that’s easy to appreciate right out of the gate.
