A consistently available and accessible 10 year old bourbon that may not get enthusiasts excited, but still has something to say at its sub-$50 price point.

Bulleit 10 Year Bourbon is one of Bulleit’s 6 ongoing releases. We last reviewed it in 2016, and surprisingly the whiskey’s label and asking price remain the same. Diageo opened their Shelbyville distillery in 2017, and then their Lebanon distillery in 2021, which both produce Bulleit. However, as Bulleit sources most of their whiskey, much of which is known to have been distilled by Four Roses Distillery, it is unclear if the source remains the same or even if what’s being bottled combines bourbons distilled at multiple distilleries in Kentucky for their older products such as 10 Year Bourbon. With that being said, given timelines and what we know about Bulleit, the bourbon contained in the bottle being reviewed was most likely sourced from Four Roses.

Bulleit 10 Year Bourbon is an all-around easy-sipper. Despite being over 11 proof points higher than Basil Hayden 10 Year, it drinks to about the same level of intensity, being just as mellow. However, where Basil Hayden 10 Year focuses more heavily on oak, Bulleit 10 Year focuses more heavily on caramel and vanilla flavors, with just slight hints of higher age with slight oak on the nose and leather emerging on the midpalate and trailing into the finish. Bulleit 10 Year Bourbon may not make an attention-grabbing statement with its sip, but what it does do well is dial in a highly approachable, high aged, easy-drinking bourbon for a sub-$50 price point. While this may not get bourbon enthusiasts excited, casual drinkers will find a lot to love with this consistently available and accessible bourbon.
