A light, fruit-forward whiskey that’s unique tasting but doesn’t have enough oomph to make a lasting impact.
Blue Run Flight Series II: Joshua Tree Sunrise is one of Molson Coors microbatch releases under the Blue Run label, which are no less than two barrels and no more than five barrels. It’s part of a six whiskey batch release series, with bottle counts ranging from 636-900 bottles per batch.
Like preceding Blue Run releases, this bourbon is light even at its 117 proof point. An array of spice and fruit comprise the aroma, along with an unusual but still inviting metallic undertone. Apricot, mango, and honeydew combine with cinnamon and allspice on the palate, which is light overall. Rounding things out, green grape and leather join in the finish, which ends with a lingering spice. It’s a pleasant whiskey that veers heavily toward the light side of the flavor spectrum, and while it’s a serviceable pour, I expect more from the brand for these small carefully curated batches at such a high price point.
