A nuanced whiskey with a P.X. Sherry finish that doesn’t overpower the base blend.

P.X. Sherry is the latest release in Barrell Craft Spirits’ limited edition Cask Finish Series line, which currently includes Amburana, A Tale of Two Islands, Mizunara, and Ice Wine.

P.X. is short for “Pedro Ximénez,” which is a white Spanish wine grape variety grown in several Spanish wine regions, but most notably in the “denominación de origen” of Montilla-Moriles. It’s used to produce an intensely sweet, dark, dessert sherry.

True to Barrell Craft Spirits’ style of whiskey making, Cask Finish Series: P.X. Sherry is a nuanced whiskey with a well-integrated finish that doesn’t overpower the base blend. Raisin leads the aroma, with tobacco, nutmeg, and dark fruits adding depth. On the palate, a subtle buttercream frosting note lays a sweet base, with hints of dark fruits, raisin, caramel, and fig along with a slight hint of dark chocolate. Black pepper emerges on the finish, contrasting sweet dried fig and aged oak.

The flavors in this whiskey are subtle, without a single one ever dominating. There are familiar flavors, but notably unique flavors as well. Overall it’s a well-balanced whiskey that brings everything together in a very cohesive way.
