For this double-header pick we partnered with Keg N Bottle out of California. A California retailer, Keg N Bottle was established in 1981 and has been in business for over 30 years. Keg N Bottle is known for strategically engineered “Liquor Walls” and “Beer Caves.” They carry every different type of liquor imaginable, a wine for every occasion, 1,500 different beers to make you “hoppy,” and over 1,250 different kegs to choose from. Additionally, Keg N Bottle offers national delivery of every single item from their massive selection.
Cascade Hollow Distillery is the source for many other whiskeys, however barrel quality varies and when bottled under another name the price is often exponentially more. Offered George Dickel barrels at 9 years old and 15 years old with a final all-in price tag of around $100 for BOTH bottles, we had to give the barrels a try. To put that into perspective, many brands are selling single barrels in the 13-15 year old range, from the same source, for $100 or more.
For the 9 year old barrels, we found a lot of lively and sweet notes with each of the barrels. This of course included a characteristic “mineral” note, which is often referred to as reminiscent of a Flintstones vitamins flavor. We ultimately picked the barrel with the most lively flavor profile - one that offers a nice mix of sweet and spicy flavors along with Red Hots candy and a nice base of caramel.
For the 15 year old barrels, we also drew the familiar mineral note as well, but along with that oak and funk. We’ve tasted a lot of 15 year old Dickel barrels around this proof point, and they vary from good to great. In this case, we wanted to pick a barrel that complemented the 9 Year old, which meant a greater presence of oak to highlight its additional time in the barrel. Thankfully one of the barrels offered this, with musty oak persisting throughout against a base of caramel sweetness and warm rye spice.
For the stickers, we couldn’t resist going right at the Flintstones based on that much talked about Flintstones vitamins flavor note. And what is opposite (or even complementary to) the Flintstones? The Jetsons of course! Turning childhood nostalgia up to 110%, hopefully these parody stickers elicit warm childhood memories as they do ours!
