Zeppelin Bend Single Barrel is an American single malt whiskey from the New Holland Brewing Company out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Known for their Dragon’s Milk beer and recent introduction of Dragon’s Milk Bourbon, their Zeppelin Bend American malt has been around since 2007. The whiskey is limited to sale in only New Holland’s tasting room & bars in Holland/Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Zeppelin Bend American Single Malt Sherry Cask Finish sports an impressive 10 year age statement. Few American single malts can claim this achievement, so this release should turn heads on that alone. Its sherry cask finish is certainly front and center and while not shy, it isn’t overbearing. The whiskey’s barrel finish overshadows the whiskey’s age to a degree, but the 10 year old malt has its own job to do and grounds the whiskey. This rock solid base is how the whiskey keeps its sherry finish in check. As a result, this isn’t a flashy single malt that you’ll bring out to impress those looking for a whiskey with flair. There is no denying it’s sophisticated and well crafted, and malt-heads will find plenty to love, but bourbon lovers may expect more flourish. In the American single malt scene, there’s little like it.
