Wooler Whiskey Bourbon plays it safe with their standard bourbon, offering consumers an inoffensive sip for an inoffensive price.

Wooler Whiskey brands were founded by Jason Wooler, a 30 year spirits industry who suffered a stroke, which led to years of recovery. With a focus on family, the company states that Wooler “chose to build something new alongside his family, combining decades of experience with a shared commitment to the business. That decision is at the heart of Wooler Brands: a modern spirits company run by real family involvement.” In fact, the brand’s logo, which is a sheep wearing a tilted crown, is a nod to the Wooler family’s English farming heritage.

Opening with gentle, pleasing scents, Wooler Whiskey Bourbon focuses on a sweeter aroma that rests atop peeled orange and sandalwood scents. These transition to a classic flavor profile in the palate that blends in orange rind. Although the mouthfeel is thin, it isn’t a major detriment. The bourbon’s finish is short and to the point, focusing on various sweet flavor notes that mingle with white peppercorn spice and new oak.

Wooler Whiskey Bourbon delivers everything consumers might expect for a 5 year, 90 proof bourbon, and nothing more. And that’s okay, especially considering its affordable price of $40. Those looking for a light and approachable bourbon will feel right at home with Wooler Whiskey Bourbon.

The bourbon in review is from Batch No. 54.
