The latest cask strength bourbon from Pinhook is an easy-drinking affair with a reasonable price tag.

Bourbon Breeze is Pinhook’s 2024 vintage cask strength bourbon. Like all of Pinhook’s releases, the name of the whiskey celebrates a specific racehorse. In this case, “Bourbon Breeze,” is a 3 year old filly that was foaled April 20, 2021, bred in Kentucky, and raced from 2023-2024. This whiskey is a 5 year old bourbon that was distilled and aged specifically at Castle & Key according to the company’s specifications.

The bourbon opens with a really nice nose containing light summer fruits and burnt caramel scents that waft out of the glass to greet you. As you inhale deeper, you find light, layered scents of faint vanilla, charred oak, butterscotch, and brownies. The midpoint brings a nice mix of spicy, earthier notes that mingle with lighter, sweet flavors of cherry and hibiscus. Ending with a quick hit of flavors, including chewy oak, rye spice, and light caramel, the bourbon holds on for a bit with a light lingering spice. Sadly the transition from the flavors to the lingering spice is much too quick, leaving you little time to appreciate what’s present. While the finish leaves you wanting more, overall, Pinhook Cask Strength “Bourbon Breeze” 2024 is an easy-drinking cask strength bourbon that is hard to ignore at its price point.
