Now officially at the halfway point, Pinhook’s Tiz Rye Time Vertical series remains one of the most fun and unique experiments happening in the world of rye whiskeys.
Pinhook Tiz Rye Time 8 Year is the fifth bottle in the brand’s vertical rye series following last year's 7 year old release. After decreasing the proof for the first time last year, this year’s release sees the brand increase the proof to its highest ever, clocking in at 108.4 proof. This year's edition is made up of a blend of 32 barrels in total and sees the price increase a reasonable $7 over last year's release.
The latest edition of Tiz Rye Time swings the pendulum back to the spicier flavor profile found when the rye was just 6 years old. Sharing familiar pine notes with last year's release, the 8 year version focuses on charred oak, dried mixed fruit, and cinnamon stick. The palate is the highlight, with sweet cinnamon, rye, and baking spices nicely balancing each other out. Compared to last year’s release, the end of the sip is not as dry and showcases sweet cinnamon and rye, which mingle together before rye spice, leather, and chewy oak briefly take over before finishing on lingering spice. Tiz Rye Time Vertical series continues to produce an above average sip that highlights how aging can have an impact on a particular whiskey year over year.
