An increase in proof helps Mythology Best Friend Bourbon Cask Strength deliver a sip that can be appreciated by those seeking out a higher proof pour.
Founded by three Colorado natives that “seek out experiences through travel and adventure,” Mythology Distillery is based on the stories that happen in life. The company’s Best Friend Bourbon in particular highlights the bond a man and a dog share and the special moments they experience. For their cask strength version, the company uses the exact same mashbill blend as their standard release. However, while the mashbill may be the same, cranking up the proof by 30 points adds depth, allowing the bourbon to dial up the flavors.
The sip starts with a nose that is on the lighter side, however, the parts that follow are more robust. The palate layers in spice and sweetness and is the clear highlight of the sip. The finish rounds things out with a focus on cinnamon spice combined with light sweet and earthy elements, while its lingering heat helps to showcase the proof. While I would have liked to see this intriguing mashbill deliver even more complexity, the increase in proof does just enough to differentiate and pull ahead from the standard release.
