Hailing from “The Treasure State,” Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #4: Montgomery Distillery Montana Bourbon is a true farm-to-glass bourbon.

Lost Lantern’s Spring 2026 Collection explores the difference between high proof and low proof whiskeys, showcasing both the intensity of cask strength whiskeys and the balance and approachability of lower proof ones. The collection includes the new Far-Flung Bourbon 100 Proof alongside a stronger cask strength version, plus eight single casks paired by proof from distilleries across the U.S - some of which have never been featured by Lost Lantern before.

Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #4 is part of the company’s High-Low Mountain Bourbon Pairing. With a proof of 104.6, it acts as the lower proof bottle of the pairing, with the other bottle being Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #3: Day’s Defile Idaho Straight Bourbon, which comes in at a whopping 154.4 proof. When it comes to this pairing, the company states that “High elevation and dry air contribute to deeply concentrated spirits that can be bold and powerful, or rich and nuanced.”

Located in Missoula, Montana, Montgomery Distillery is a grain-to-glass distillery that produces a range of spirits, from whiskey to vodka to aquavit. Founded in 2012, the distillery resides on the company’s 200 acre farm, which has been in the Montgomery family for approximately 90 years. This is the first time that Lost Lantern has released both a bourbon from Montgomery Distillery and from the state of Montana.

The bourbon opens with a light overall aroma that highlights its wheat mashbill thanks to scents of vanilla, fresh dinner roll, and a touch of peach. The palate focuses on gentle cinnamon spice, faint stone fruit, and fruit bread; however, its younger age is highlighted here as the notes are promising, but not as well developed as one would hope for. Ending on baking chocolate, gentle vanilla, and green peppercorn spice, the bourbon shows itself out quickly.

Lost Lantern is known for their bold releases, which normally focus on bold, expressive flavors, no matter the whiskey category they reside in. In the case of Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #4, the sip comes across as more mundane than not. For many, this will be their first opportunity to try a bourbon from Montana; however, the sip from Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #4: Montgomery Distillery Montana Bourbon will quickly fade from memory.

Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #4: Montgomery Distillery Montana Bourbon is a 207 bottle release.
