While it may not invoke its moniker “Porch Cigars,” Batch 24B from Echo Spirits Distilling Co. delivers a nicely blended bourbon.
Echo Spirits Distilling Co. is a craft distillery located in Columbus, Ohio’s Grandview neighborhood. The company states that its goal is to be “an echo of a time when we knew the people making our local products.” The company tries to source as many ingredients as possible from Ohio, even down to the paper used when printing its labels. Ironically, Batch 24B is a blend of bourbons from MGP in Indiana and Bardstown Bourbon Company in Kentucky.
Being a blend of two well-known distilleries, Batch 24B would seem to be a safe choice, and for the most part, that assumption is correct. While the sip is nicknamed “Porch Cigars,” the flavor profile seems to be anything but. Instead, it’s full of sweet and spicy scents, opening with an easygoing nose that is full of ripe peaches and lighter vanilla and brown sugar. The palate contains mostly the same profile with the addition of rye spice and spiced honey and transitions to an incredibly short finish. Batch 24B is an easy-to-drink bourbon that plays it safe, delivering a sip that most won’t find fault with.
The bourbon in review is 1 of 374 bottles.
