With a focus on sweet flavors, Copperworks Craft Malt Month 2025 American Single Malt showcases the benefits of additional aging with their Farmsmith release.
Copperworks Distilling Co. is a distillery located in downtown Seattle, Washington, and has been operating since 2013. Copperworks focuses on single malt whiskey. Variables across releases include the variety of barley, aging time, and characteristics of barrels used for aging. Craft Malt Month 2025 American Single Malt Whiskey was part of the eight casks used in Copperworks' Farmsmith release. The company continued aging this single barrel whiskey for over a year longer. This release honors The Craft Maltsters Guild, with $10 from every bottle going to the organization. Referring to this whiskey, the company states that “distilled from Baronesse barley, known for its exceptional quality and rich, malty flavor, grown at Joseph's Grainery (Colfax, WA) and malted by LINC Malt (Spokane, WA), this release (referred to behind-the-scenes as Single Cask No. 484) reflects the heart of the craft malt movement, local sourcing, strong farmer partnerships, and artisanal quality.”
The extra time the whiskey spent in the barrel compared to its Farmsmith counterparts paid off. Gone is the muted opening; instead, this special release pulls forward pleasing, sweet scents. Its midpoint is highlighted by bright grape and crème brûlée, along with more grounding notes. The finish continues to highlight grape, with notes of fresh grapes straight off the vine and grape pie taking hold and lingering. Surprisingly, this whiskey drinks significantly lower than the 125.9 proof statement the bottle carries. Copperworks Craft Malt Month 2025 American Single Malt is a nice, pleasing sip that American single malt lovers will appreciate.
The whiskey in review is bottle number 69 of 168.
