A release of Baker’s High Rye, sees this year’s single barrels once again focus on enjoyable flavors that fans of Jim Beam small batch bourbons will want to check out.
Baker’s High Rye Bourbon was introduced in 2024 as a new brand extension for Jim Beam’s Baker’s line of bourbons. In 2025, the brand once again features its standard 7 year age statement and contains “twice the standard amount of rye in Baker’s Bourbon,” according to the company. Though Beam doesn’t disclose many of their mashbills, it is possible that it uses Old Grand-Dad’s high rye mashbill of 63% corn, 27% rye, and 10% malted barley. Additionally, the age is not a consistent 7 years, whereas the bottle we reviewed last year was aged 7 years, 9 months; this release is aged 3 months less. Interestingly, the company considers the 2025 edition, a re-release of the 2024 edition, even leaving 2024 on the neck label.
Like last year’s release, the 2025 release of Baker’s High Rye Bourbon sees the whiskey leaning into caramel, spice and dark fruits. The sip opens gently, with light candy corn, caramel and charred oak greeting you. The midpoint thankfully finds the flavors breathing more life into the sip, highlighting dark fruits, spice, caramel, and charred oak. The majority of these flavors transition into the finish, adding in leather and ending on a lingering spice and aged oak note. While the price of the whiskey is high for what it is, this release can usually be found for much less, and considering the flavor profile it provides, Baker’s High Rye Bourbon will be a bottle that fans of Beam products will want to check out.
The bottle in review is from warehouse CL-5, barreled on 01-2017, and is serial number 000224992.
