For this pick, we partnered with Seelbach’s, which was founded by Blake Riber, also the creator of Bourbonr and the Bourbonr Facebook group. An online-only retailer with a twist, we interviewed Riber to discuss how he’s running his shop differently than everyone else. “Unlocking Craft Spirits” he calls it - seeking out up-and-coming craft distilleries and learning about their process and tasting through their products to find hidden gems.

Lucky Seven has been flying under the radar for most, but those in the know have been reaping all of the spoils. The movie-themed brand has been releasing a number of great whiskeys, all ranging in age, but it's their high aged bourbons that truly shine the most. Their previous The Proprietor releases were 6 year old and 12 year old Kentucky bourbons, and in late 2021 they upped it with a 14 year old release.

In fact, we gave their latest 14 year “The Proprietor” release a rare 4.5 barrel rating on Breaking Bourbon. That’s why we jumped at the chance to select one of their 14 year old bourbon single barrels for our Single Barrel Club. What makes this bourbon so special is its excellent balance of the classic bourbon flavor profile. It features dark and rich flavors of vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, and raisin, backed with rich sweet oak that perfectly showcases its impressive age. Complex and layered, the bourbon reminds you how great aged bourbon can be when it’s done right.

For our club’s bottle sticker, we rolled with the theme of the proprietor, unfortunately it looks like this gentleman might have taken one too many chances. Facing a downturn in business, he resorted to gambling to cover his debts, but his luck never changed and neither did his fate. “The Unluckiest Proprietor” is a tribute to the search and ultimately the gamble whiskey drinkers put into finding the perfect bourbon. SBC Release #54 is a well-balanced classic bourbon that, thanks to its 132.7 proof, surprises you when you least expect it.
