Not known for sourcing their whiskey, Woodinville Whiskey Company takes a different approach for their high aged limited release.

Woodinville Founder’s Find is a limited edition whiskey released alongside Sauternes Finish in October 2024. Unlike most Woodinville Whiskey Company releases, the whiskey was sourced from other distilleries, in this case undisclosed distilleries in Tennessee and Indiana. Notably, the Tennessee component, which makes up 96% of the blend, does not qualify as bourbon though it was distilled from a bourbon mash which means it contained at least 51% corn.

Sourcing whiskey isn’t unusual for a distillery that also bottles their own distillate, and can help meet product demand and fill gaps in the company’s portfolio. While Woodinville Whiskey Company was founded in 2009, the majority of their releases hover around 5 years old. They released a tremendous 8 year old in-house distilled bourbon in 2024, which made our Best Bourbons of 2024 list.

Founder’s Find echoes flavor notes similar to higher aged Tennessee whiskeys, however, it leans a little heavier into sweeter flavors and maintains a higher proof point than many Tennessee sourced whiskeys have commanded. The Tennessee component also isn’t classified as a bourbon, but rather “whiskey distilled from a bourbon mash” which is an unusual distinguishing feature, though not the first time we have seen this used on a label. The most notable feature is that it’s well rounded, which many would describe as smooth. While the whiskey doesn’t break any boundaries, it will undoubtedly please consumers who are looking for a sweeter bourbon (yes it does taste like bourbon) that has hints of aged oak and spice.
