A well-executed American single malt, the 2025 release of Whiskey Del Bac Normandie delivers a flavor profile that combines a malty base with vibrant light fruits.
Whiskey Del Bac is a small, family-run distillery located in Tucson, Arizona. The distillery was founded in 2011 and has been quietly releasing American Single Malts with their own unique spin on them, well before the classification gained popularity and official status by the TTB.
Normandie is part of the distillery’s annual Global Cask Collection. The whiskey gets its name from the coastal region of Normandie, France. First introduced in 2022, the 2025 release is the fourth edition. Starting with a lightly mesquite smoked single malt, Normandie is finished in rarely used French Calvados casks which are casks from the Normandy region of France that are made from French oak that previously held apple brandy.
The whiskey is approachable, setting layers of light fruits atop a malty base. Green grape, pear, juicy citrus, orange zest, and apricot are accented by flavors of white chocolate and white pepper. The flavors are soft and elegant. While the whiskey is built on a lightly mesquite smoked base, the mesquite falls off against the finish, which makes the whiskey less polarizing than you might anticipate. Overall it is a solid showing from Whiskey Del Bac.
