Westland Garryana Edition 9 is part of the company’s Outpost Range Collection, which features three limited-edition expressions that are released annually - Garryana, Colere, and Solum. Garryana showcases the provenance of the Pacific Northwest and will be limited to just 6,600 bottles. According to Master Blender Shane Armstrong, “Garryana Edition 9 contrasts and comments on its predecessor. Full-term Oloroso Butts were used and draw an entirely different portrait than the PX of past versions.” A combination of casks types was used to age the whiskey for Edition 9, including virgin garryana oak, first fill ex-bourbon, and first fill ex-Oloroso butts. Westland’s Garryana line falls on the high end of the distillery’s releases, falling in line with others in the Outpost Range Collection but clocking in at more than double the cost of their flagship American single malt.
Garryana Edition 9 is a complex American single malt, with flavors driven by various types of malted barley and the variation of casks used to age the whiskey. The flavor profile builds on a foundation of chocolate, clove, and nutty flavors, which define the sip. Though a range of other flavors mingles in to form a complex whiskey, the base of the flavors is rich, prominent, and well-defined nonetheless. As a result, those who enjoy those particular flavors will find a lot to love with Garryana Edition 9.
