A bourbon designed to be approachable above all else, though its high asking price seems to counter that notion.
Silverbelly Whiskey is spearheaded by country music singer Alan Jackson. The company is named after the color of the singer’s iconic Stetson cowboy hat, and their releases use a unique batch numbering system, each corresponding in chronological order to Jackson’s 35 career chart-topping songs. Silverbelly AJ’s Birthday Whiskey is a bit different and honors Jackson's birthday with a 1,958 bottle release, which is the singer’s birth year.
Though the bottle doesn’t disclose the state of distillation, it comes from an undisclosed Tennessee distillery and features a 6 year, 6 month age statement. Much like how country music singer Dierks Bently recently put out a bourbon named Row 94, Silverbelly AJ’s Birthday Whiskey also goes for widespread appeal.
The bourbon as a whole doesn’t offer any highly unique traits and simply is going for approachability above all else. Likewise, it’s an extremely easy sipper at 101.7 proof, but that seems to come at a cost of complexity. Classic bourbon notes abound, this bourbon gets points for a nice presentation, but it also comes at a high price for what it is. There is an audience for this type of bourbon, but many will find it too simple at its asking price.
