Magnolia Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch 01 is a wheated bourbon that is a true small batch bourbon, consisting of only a five barrel blend. The resulting bottle count is a scant 800+ bottles that were initially only released in Ohio, but can now be found in Indiana through Indiana Small Batch or via the company’s website. This is the first time the company has released a barrel proof product.
Starting with lighter scents that rest upon a base of ethanol in the nose, the actual sip leaves no doubt that this is a barrel proof bourbon. The palate surprisingly pulls forward many sweet flavors allowing the proof to be highlighted in a non detrimental way. The finish is much more subdued and lets the sip conclude on its lingering heat. Overall, this is a candid barrel proof bourbon, that won’t knock your socks off, but will fill the need when you’re itching for a straightforward-drinking high proof bourbon.
