A high-quality, high-aged limited edition bourbon from MGP.

Remus Gatsby Reserve was first introduced in 2022. According to the company, the bourbon is released to celebrate the era of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s legendary 1925 novel, “The Great Gatsby,” and features a blend of two bourbon mashbills distilled at MGP’s Ross & Squibb Distillery in Indiana, and curated by Master Distiller Ian Stirsman.

The bourbon features aged oak notes that are contrasted by bright and lively flavors throughout. Seasoned aged oak and leather meet caramel and stone fruits on the nose. On the palate, aged musty oak, tobacco, and aged leather are drawn against an undercurrent of walnut and dark cherry. Light baking spices emerge in the finish, accompanied by notes of caramel, leather, and aged oak that carry over from the palate. An unusual but tasty bubblegum note appears on the backend, lingering against the age and oak-driven flavors.

Remus Gatsby Reserve is a high-aged bourbon that comes together really well. Oak is prevalent, but never overpowering. It’s barrel proof, but lower than a typical barrel proof bourbon at just over 100. It has a ton of flavor but is never hot and offers very little spice for a bourbon with rye in its mashbill. Remus is a name that’s known among bourbon enthusiasts, but not so much among the mainstream consumer. As a result, Remus Gatsby Reserve is somewhat of a sleeper limited edition that lives up to its asking price and could go head to head with other more popular limited edition bourbons in a similar age range.
