Following the inaugural release, Pursuit United expands their tri-state bourbon blend into larger releases and older components, maintaining the same price point and consistent quality.
The first release for any brand is both daunting and exciting, but also sets the tone for the releases that will follow. As the second bourbon release in the Pursuit United line, it’s an equally challenging endeavor as consistency of quality must be maintained. This batch of Pursuit United features a new mashbill as compared to the first release. According to co-founder Ryan Cecil, “The types of barrels we used for the first two releases of Pursuit United were not available so we worked with Bardstown Bourbon Company to find a similar product of theirs.” As noted in the press release, this batch consists of 10,794 bottles and is denoted batch 7CC, which represents July 2022.
At 108 proof, the bourbon is satisfyingly robust, and with components originating from Kentucky, Tennessee, and New York, quite complex. The component from New York, which is specifically from Finger Lakes Distilling, is less obvious in this batch than it was in the first batch. The bourbon is also a bit more spicy, with cinnamon throughout complemented by allspice and fruit notes. Considering the number of producers blending bourbons from multiple states is still small, Pursuit United also lives up to its name, “uniting” the various whiskeys into a complex and cohesive end result. Batch 7CC is well done, and reasonably priced for what you’re getting.
