American Highway Reserve Route 2 from musician Brad Paisley proves once again that a celebrity bourbon can be just as technically interesting as its non-celebrity counterparts.
The second batch released under Brad Paisley’s American Highway Reserve brand, American Highway Reserve Route 2 changes up the blending components with just about two thirds of the blend being an 8 year old bourbon from Georgia, and adds 2 proof points though it somehow gets mellower despite the additional proof. The resulting bourbon falls on about equal ground as the first batch when it comes to overall quality, but changes up the flavor profile quite a bit. Compared to the first batch, Route 2 maintains the more traditional bourbon base of flavors including caramel, oak, and leather, but leans more into fruit notes, especially on the palate. It offers a well crafted bourbon that has enough proof and background to entice more technical bourbon fans, but at the same time is mellow and straightforward enough to satisfy a drinker who is drawn in by the story and celebrity appeal.
