Monk’s Road Small Batch Bourbon is a simple pour and a good place to start for newcomers to wheated bourbons.a
Monk’s Road Small Batch Bourbon is a new wheated bourbon from Log Still Distillery. For those not familiar with Log Still Distillery, the company states in their press release that they’re “guided by Wally Dant and cousins Lynne and Charles Dant, Log Still is re-built on old family distillery land and reimagined to create a unique bourbon and family destination.”
The bourbon is a straightforward affair, starting off with a nose that offers sweet soft aromas that draw you in. The palate continues the lightness found in the nose and introduces more traditional flavors along with a touch of sweetness. The finish is fleeting, offering a short note of dry oak, peppercorn spice, and baked dinner rolls. Overall it’s a simple pour that won’t blow you away, however, it won’t leave you disappointed either. It’s a nice introduction to wheated bourbons for those who tend to gravitate towards a more traditional spicy rye mashbill and want to experience a bourbon that leans towards the sweeter side.
