Utilizing every single proof point and year in the barrel, Lost Lantern 2024 Single Cask #19: New York Distilling Co. 10-Year-Old Straight Rye delivers a sip that will put a smile on the faces of rye lovers.
New York Distilling Co. is known as a pioneer of urban distilling. Originally founded in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2011, that later changed and it now calls the Bushwick neighborhood its home. The distillery focuses on gin and rye, the latter of which is bottled under their Jaywalk Rye brand.
People often chase higher proof whiskeys because they feel that they deliver bolder flavors. In the case of Lost Lantern 2024 Single Cask #19: New York Distilling Co. 10-Year-Old Straight Rye, those individuals will be incredibly happy from the moment they start down the journey of this sip. Opening on a bold aroma, the rye displays classic scents that mingle with cherry turnover and custard. The palate is velvety, delivering rye spice, cinnamon crumble topping, and additional cinnamon spice. These mainly carry over to the finish, which adds in baking spices and a slight cappuccino cookie note for intrigue.
I last visited Lost Lantern’s 4 year rye selection with New York Distilling Co. in 2021, and this time around, it’s clear that additional aging in the barrel did it justice. While this single cask displays classic rye flavors, I can see why Lost Lantern gravitated towards it. This is in part due to not only its velvety mouthfeel but also a supporting cast of flavors such as custard, cherry turnover, cinnamon crumble topping, and cappuccino cookie. It’s a bold sip that never lets its proof get in the way, instead highlighting exactly what a well aged rye is capable of delivering. This is a clear standout from New York Distilling Co. and a great way for Lost Lantern to wrap up 2024.
Lost Lantern 2024 Single Cask #19: New York Distilling Co. 10-Year-Old Straight Rye is a 125 bottle release.
