Part of the first set of single barrels released in 2022, Cask #1 is the second Smooth Ambler single barrel that has been featured in Lost Lantern’s Single Cask Series following 2021’s Single Cask #7.
This particular barrel pushes high on the uniqueness scale, as it offers an excessively fruit-forward and floral flavor profile that’s sure to wow some and surprise others. A bouquet of fruit on the nose transitions to a fruity and floral palate and finally a warming finish. I enjoy the idea that single barrels offer the opportunity to taste the range that a particular distillery is able to offer. If this is a representation of the range Smooth Ambler is capable of distilling, I’m excited to see what else they have in store. This barrel won’t be for everyone, but for those seeking a fruit-forward pour it really hits the spot.
