A rye finished in rum-seasoned oloroso sherry casks is high on uniqueness and surprisingly, drinkability.

The Hemingway Rye Whiskey brand is inspired by American author, journalist and storyteller Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway Rye Signature Edition follows up the company’s first whiskey, aptly named Hemingway Rye First Edition. Much like the First Edition, the Signature Edition is also finished in rum-seasoned oloroso sherry casks. The blend consists predominantly of a 6 year Indiana rye that is topped off with a 4 year Kentucky rye, both of which interestingly share a 95/5 rye mashbill.

Blending of rye whiskeys, especially those from multiple states is still sort of a rarity. More so is when those ryes share the same mashbill. The result of Hemingway Rye Signature Edition is an easy-sipping rye that pulls on threads of spice with a hint of sweetness throughout the sip from start to finish. The flavors blend nicely together and while the overall blend is on the younger side, thanks to its time finishing in Rum-Seasoned Oloroso Sherry Casks, it doesn’t exhibit any hint of youth. While this is sufficient, a few more years in barrels may have added a nice dimension of aged flavors that would be welcome. This is a really nice finished rye that doesn’t step too far out of its comfort zone but instead focuses on drinkability, delivering a sip that anyone can appreciate.
