A fun, reasonably priced barrel proof single barrel Kentucky wheated bourbon that will see a limited rollout in 2025.
Green River Wheated Single Barrel Bourbon was introduced in February 2025 and is a permanent line extension for the brand. According to the company, “Just 100 barrels will be available in 2025, exclusively for purchase by the barrel to on- and off-premise retailers. A limited number of bottles will be available to the general public beginning February 13, 2025, exclusively at the Green River distillery gift shop in Owensboro, and Bardstown Bourbon Co. retail shops at the distillery in Bardstown and Tasting Room in Louisville.”
Green River Wheated Bourbon Single Barrel Bourbon adds to the growing, yet still short, list of barrel proof wheated bourbons, and to that end, should get your attention. Flavor profile and proof will vary from barrel to barrel, and with the 2025 launch, the brand extension is just getting its footing.
The barrel in review deviates from the core 90 proof version, forgoing its sweet, smooth character and instead replacing it with ample cinnamon, baking spices, and citrus. I really enjoy Green River’s standard 90 proof wheated bourbon (which you should have on your shelf given its price point and drinkability), and as a result, the change to barrel proof single barrel is less of an upgrade and more of a sidestep. Overall intensity and spice increase at the expense of sweet flavors and drinkability. Given the price point of only $60 per bottle and the fact that there really aren’t a lot of wheated barrel proof single barrel bourbons out there, this is a fun release and one you should scoop up if you happen to come across given the limited number of barrels that will hit the market in 2025.
