Good Trouble Bourbon is a run-of-the-mill bourbon from Green River Distilling that carries an eye-popping price for what it is.
Good Trouble Bourbon was founded in 2023 by Dee M. Robinson, who was inspired by the social justice philosophy of the late Congressman John Lewis. The company states that the name “Good Trouble” came from John Lewis’s “Good Trouble” stance and that it's “a lifestyle brand committed to sparking meaningful conversations and inspiring positive change.” While their namesake bourbon carries a high MSRP, the company seems to focus on offering consumers a number of deals, including a 15% discount for buying 100 bottles or more. Yes, you just read that correctly.
Whenever a bourbon comes in at 90+ proof and carries a 4 year age statement, it can go a few different ways. Its flavor profile can either pleasantly surprise you, be run-of-the-mill, or make you regret your decision. Pricing of course can drastically alter its trajectory, and that’s exactly what happens with Good Trouble Bourbon. The whiskey in the bottle is run-of-the-mill from Green River, if not uneventful, and on the light and thin side throughout the sip. However, attaching a nearly $100 MSRP to this bottle doesn’t add up, when you can buy Green River’s standard bourbon for a third of the price. Premium positioning in whiskey, and any realm for that matter, is common, but the bourbon just doesn’t deliver on any attributes that would be necessary to back it up.
