A four state blended bourbon that struggles to fully display its complexity but manages to offer a well-balanced, value-based sip instead.
There’s no doubt that Filmland Spirits has some of the best bottle and label designs in the business. Capturing the spirit of adventure with each release nicely mirrors what’s in the bottle. For their Quadraforce release, that is especially true, as it is a blend of four straight bourbons with four different mashbills, from four different states (one undisclosed). In today’s crowded non-distiller producer market, that extra effort and attention to detail can really make you stand out.
Quadraforce comes in four different labels, all sporting a different fictional superhero, but each of the bottles’ contents are the same. The three disclosed bourbons in the blend are all heavily corn focused, which leads to a sweet smelling nose and sweet tasting palate. The nose in particular, features enjoyable amounts of caramel, honey, and pound cake that work well together. The palate features a heavy fresh baked bread note that melds with golden raisin and almond notes. The finish ramps up the rye spice and offers cornbread and cinnamon along with it.
The bourbon certainly has a lot going for it on paper, but has a harder time showing it in its delivery. Its nose and palate are nicely balanced, providing a very even sip. The bourbon’s finish offers just enough rye spice to keep it interesting. Though the flavors all work well together, there is a lack of overall impact, though its price point does a lot to make up for that. Much like many of Filmland Spirits releases, the first sip won’t immediately wow you, but the next will reveal that there is a bit more going on than you first thought. Taken as a whole, Quadraforce may not reach the same heights as their previous release, but most will enjoy their time with it.
