A barrel proof version of Filmland Spirits’ core straight rye release that adds a welcome layer of richness.
Filmland Spirits combines a passion for movies with a love of American whiskey. The company is relatively new to the scene, with their initial launch of three whiskeys in September, 2022. They recently added a few new whiskeys to their portfolio, upping the proof on their rye release and introducing a limited edition 9 year old Kentucky bourbon. Filmland Spirits’ story for Ryes of the Robots Extended Cut is as follows:
“In the aftermath of the Automation Wars of 3050, the world has rejected technology and embraced a simpler time where cocktail clubs are the new state houses and bartenders hold sway. When a fallen technology titan builds an army of robotic bartenders to conquer the world, the only hope is Courtney Winters, the Cocktail Consortium’s number one bartender. Can she fend off this despotic army of mechanized mixologists or will this be the world’s unhappiest hour!?”
The “Extended Cut” moniker is Ryes of the Robots Extended Cut’s name means cask strength, as this is a cask strength version of Filmland Spirits’ core 94 proof Ryes of the Robots straight rye. Sourced from an undisclosed Indiana distillery (presumably MGP), Ryes of the Robots Extended Cut drinks much like you might expect for a barrel proof 95% rye whiskey from Indiana, though it has both a slightly elevated richness and additional sweetness to it. Familiar rye spice, aged oak, and an herbal undertone are present, but additional notes including clove and cornbread on the nose, honey, maple sugar candy, black pepper, and cinnamon on the palate, and brown sugar on the finish layer in. The herbal undertone on the palate is most closely similar to mint, but it’s very subtle against the rich sweet-spice mix.
The bottle is more flavorful than what you tend to see from Indiana sourced ryes, resulting in a highly enjoyable drinking experience for fans of this style of whiskey.
