Dragon’s Milk Origin Toasted Barrel 2025E “Sweater Weather” is a rich, intensely flavorful whiskey that combines sherry finishing with Dragon’s Milk Toasted Origin’s flavor profile to deeply satisfying results.
New Holland Brewing Company has a unique style that permeates throughout its line of whiskeys. This is likely because they distill on a prohibition-era pot still as opposed to the more common column still, and their bourbon has a mashbill that swaps the typical rye and malted barley percentages, with 25% malted barley and only 5% rye. This has resulted in bourbons that have lively flavor profiles often underpinned by unique summer fruit and citrus notes. Their toasted series takes that one step further, finishing in toasted oak barrels.
The company’s toasted series continues to be highly anticipated among the company’s growing fanbase, with bottles released at the Michigan locations and more recently online as well. This is the second drop of the year, with batch designations of 2025E, 2025F, and 2025G. It’s also the second time the distillery has finished in sherry barrels, following last year’s 2024E “Backyard Bonfire” release.
New Holland Spirits’ base flavor profile is so unique and enjoyable, and as a result, such a critical element to these releases, that the few times New Holland has missed the mark on their special Toasted Barrel releases in this series have been situations where the finishing barrels completely overpowered the flavors of the base whiskey. Thankfully, Dragon’s Milk Origin Toasted Barrel 2025E “Sweater Weather” marries the two almost perfectly. It goes deep into its sherry finish, yet still allows the unique flavors of the distillery’s base whiskey to get through to a near-perfect extent. The whiskey delivers this combination of flavors with intensity, making for a highly delicious, flavorful pour.
