Copper & Cask kicks off their Small Batch Series with a winner.
According to Copper & Cask, their “inaugural Small Batch Series release is an 8-year Bourbon, comprised of 13 handpicked barrels that were all distilled in Indiana in May 2015, and aged in Florida. After maturing in the hot, tropical climate of the southeast, the barrels were married together in the summer of 2023 and bottled in September at barrel proof, non-chill filtered.”
Copper & Cask, which sources whiskeys from Indiana, Kentucky, Canada, and beyond, releases most of their products as private single barrel selections. We selected a barrel for our Single Barrel Club back in 2022, which we nicknamed “Caramel Bomb,” and it shares the same origin and mashbill as Batch No. 001. This is their first small batch release, and comprises only 2,000 bottles. The whiskey originates from MGP’s popular 75% corn, 21% rye mashbill, but the familiarity stops there. It has a gripping richness from start to finish, and leans into its sweet candy and dessert flavors to satisfying results. While there aren’t too many bottles in this initial release, I hope Copper & Cask found a formula they can repeat to produce more batches like this one in the future.
