Bardstown Bourbon Company Discovery Series #13 is the first double-finished bourbon in the series, which is an ongoing collection of limited edition blended whiskeys from various sources. To create this whiskey, four sourced Kentucky bourbons were blended together. Approximately 60% of the blend was finished in new American white oak barrels, while the remaining 40% was finished in Hungarian oak barrels for 4 months.

The 13th entry in Bardstown Bourbon Company’s Discovery Series is a full-flavored affair. Its dark amber color alludes to its richness, which is likely amplified by the secondary barrel aging. Stewed dark fruits define the aroma, with accents of Luxardo cherry, apple fry cake, caramel, and vanilla custard. The vanilla custard note rolls into the palate and transforms more precisely into crème brûlée topped with the candied sugar coating and is complemented by more dark fruits, toffee, graham cracker, and clove. Peppery seasoned oak and a pleasant rye spice emerge on the backend, pulling into the finish, which transitions towards baking spices and cinnamon at the onset. Cherry pie, toasted oak, and lingering spice round it out.

Bardstown Bourbon Company continues to deliver high quality whiskeys, and their Discovery Series allows them to focus on blending. While not earth-shattering in terms of overall flavor profile, Discovery Series #13 thrives on a rich, yet grounded, flavor profile with dark fruits and vanilla custard as highlights.
