A robust finished blend of bourbon thanks to its blend that spans ages, distilleries, and mash grains.
Bardstown Bourbon Company’s Collaborative Series brings adjacent brands together, folding them into one another which typically results in a unique barrel finished whiskey. For their Silver Oak collaboration, Bardstown Bourbon Company first created a complex blend that brings together six bourbons distilled in four different states, includes four different grains, and ranging in age from 9 to 14 years. The blend was then finished in ex-cabernet barrels from Silver Oak winery for 17 months.
The whiskey starts with raspberry, black cherry, toffee, roasted nuts, and charred oak on the nose. The dark fruit notes carry over into the palate, where they’re joined by strawberry seasoned oak, and toffee. It has a nutty undertone and turns slightly tannic as it rounds into the finish. There, tobacco, dark berries, and burnt brown sugar cap off the sip, which ends on a lingering dry note.
Bardstown Bourbon Company Collaborative Series: Silver Oak brings together a wide range of base blending ingredients, starting with a base blend that is similar in format to the distillery’s Fusion Series. The blend is finished in ex-Silver Oak cabernet barrels for a relatively long time, resulting in a cohesive whiskey that doubles down on its dark fruit and nutty undertone flavor profile, with a long, dry finish. Surprisingly, given how long it was finished, the sip tastes more like a traditional straight whiskey than a cabernet finished blend. It may be a bit too potent for the wine connoisseur crowd, but whiskey fans who enjoy a higher proof, robust pour will enjoy it.
