A limited annual release from Whiskey Del Bac out of Tucson, Arizona, Normandie is an American single malt with its own unique spin, rich in unique flavors.
Whiskey Del Bac is known for their unique tasting American single malt whiskey, so finishing in ex-Calvados casks brings the possibility of new and interesting flavors. Calvados is an apple brandy which is only produced in Normandie, France. According to the company’s press release, “Normandie is Whiskey Del Bac’s Classic American Single Malt Whiskey, aged in charred, new American white oak barrels, then finished an additional 13 months in Calvados brandy barrels. The American single malt is named after the coastal region of Normandie (the French spelling), France, which is known for its creamy cheeses, rich seafood, and an abundance of apples and pears.” The release comprises only 900 bottles total.
The whiskey is an adventure in flavor, and as a result will be for those looking to push their palate further into the expanding American single malt category. At 97 proof it’s exceptionally rich, and has an incredibly deep color. What’s most surprising is how it pulls in cherry, apple, and citrus against a base of earthy maltiness, making for a rich but lively sip. If you’re looking to push yourself further into American single malt territory, Normandie is for you.
