Watch Hill Proper was founded in 2022 by Tommy Craggs and Josh Howes and is highlighted as a premier American whiskey bar in Prospect, Kentucky. The company offers an extensive bourbon selection along with a food menu and caters to members and nonmembers alike. Since opening, the company has also created its own bourbon line which includes the Discovery and Exceptional Series. For this release, the company selected a single barrel of a 20 year old Kentucky straight bourbon that was bottled at barrel proof, which is rare to see for a bourbon this old.

Watch Hill Exceptional Series Batch 02 grabs your attention the moment you raise the glass and are enticed by its rich, deep, aged notes, which are the star of the sip. The midpoint brings about delicious spice and chewy aged oak, along with burnt caramel and a breakfast pastry note. Its age shows the most in the finish, which highlights rye spice and dry leather and oak which borders being overly dry. The price is stupendously high and with a presumably small release that was handled via a lottery, available to only a limited few. However, as a one-off single barrel that delivers a delicious barrel proof 20 year old pour that never comes across as over oaked, those who do purchase a bottle will be extremely pleased with what Watch Hill Exceptional Series Batch 02 delivers.
